No Girl Left Behind: The Wonder Walkers
At Girls on the Run Southeastern Wisconsin, every girl deserves to feel supported, encouraged, and confident as she crosses the finish line. That experience doesn’t happen by chance—it’s made possible by volunteers who show up with purpose.
One of those groups is Gamma Phi Beta, a proud national partner of Girls on the Run. Through this partnership, we work closely with their local chapter, whose members serve as dedicated 5K “Wonder Walkers”—ensuring that no girl is left behind.
A Mission That Aligns
Gamma Phi Beta continues to support Girls on the Run Southeastern Wisconsin because of their shared mission to build strong girls.
They are committed to improving the lives of young girls by not only building stronger girls, but also stronger communities through them. Their members recognize that girls today face more challenges than ever, making the need for a safe place with supportive mentors even greater.
Girls need women in their lives who can help them develop the skills to succeed—and Gamma Phi Betas strive to be those women.

The Power of the Wonder Walkers
Serving as 5K “Wonder Walkers” has become one of the most meaningful ways Gamma Phi Beta supports Girls on the Run.
For their members, the experience is simple but powerful: creating a safe and supportive environment for each participant is the main goal. Whether it’s walking alongside a girl, offering encouragement, or simply being present, their role ensures that every participant feels seen and supported from start to finish.
Being able to interact with the girls they care so much about makes this one of the most rewarding opportunities to give back.
Showing Up All Year Long
Gamma Phi Beta’s impact goes beyond the 5K.
Their members support Girls on the Run Southeastern Wisconsin through consistent volunteerism and fundraising efforts throughout the year. Volunteering at events like the Sneaker Soirée has become a highlight for many, offering a chance to connect directly with the GOTR community and support the mission in action.
They also bring creativity and energy to their fundraising efforts. This year, their Carnations for Donations initiative raised approximately $600 during Valentine’s Day week by selling their sorority’s signature flower.
Later this spring, they will host their signature fundraising event, Moonball, an annual sporting tournament. This year’s event—a basketball tournament—will take place on Saturday, April 18, with all proceeds directly benefiting Girls on the Run Southeastern Wisconsin.

An Invitation to Get Involved
When asked Philanthropy Chair, Kelsey Appelbaum, what she would say to other student groups or organizations considering getting involved, she didn’t hesitate:
“It is one of the most rewarding and inspiring opportunities one can experience. The love and joy that comes from Girls on the Run is hard to replicate.”
Their message is clear—this work matters, and the impact is something you have to experience for yourself.
Thank You, Gamma Phi Beta
Through a strong national partnership and a deeply engaged local chapter, Gamma Phi Beta continues to help create an environment where every girl feels supported, confident, and capable.
Because of volunteers like them, we can continue building strong girls while ensuring that, every step of the way, no girl is left behind.
